The procedure commences with dyeing the fabric in a vibrant shade, after which the artisan employs a bleach paste on a meticulously carved wooden block to imprint the fabric, bleaching the pattern onto the dyed fabric. Notably, the bleach paste starts off as transparent while drying, rendering the design barely discernible and adding complexity to the process. Proper folding of the fabric is essential prior to steaming to ensure uniform activation of the bleach. Subsequently, the fabric is steamed in a drum with water, activating the bleaching agent to unveil the pattern. Although discharge printing demands a significant amount of labor and time, the final outcome is truly remarkable. It is worth mentioning that discharge printing is significantly influenced by atmospheric humidity, with printing yielding better results in hot, dry conditions, and steaming being carried out during the cooler evening hours.
